Hohe Wand is a rift at the eastern edge of the Alps - around 60 km southwest of Vienna.
The nearly perpendicular rockwall
is extending to appr. 10km from northeast to southwest. The difference
in height from the launching area to the landing area is appx. 500 m. Best
wind conditions for soaring with hanggliders and paragliders are slight
to moderate winds from east to south. Because of the very particular geographic
situation just between the flat land in the east and the Alp-mountains
in the west it is very easy to get connected to thermals - making the Hohe
Wand a very good launching site for either longlasting, relaxing rift-soaring
as also to cross-country flights.
